Spencer Bivens
Spencer Bivens Picks up loss Sunday
Mon, Jul 14, 2025, 9:18 AM
Bivens took the loss in Sunday's 5-2 extra-innings defeat to the Dodgers, allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits and one intentional walk while striking out one over one inning.
Analysis: Tasked with protecting a tie game in the 11th inning, Bivens retired the first two batters he faced before surrendering three consecutive singles, allowing the Dodgers to take a commanding lead. The right-hander has been charged with five runs (four earned) in his last two outings. He now owns a 3.72 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and a 37:14 K:BB across 46 innings in 31 appearances this season.
Jung Hoo Lee
Jung Hoo Lee Doubles in defeat
Mon, Jul 14, 2025, 9:09 AM
Lee went 1-for-3 with a double and a walk in Sunday's 5-2 extra-innings loss to the Dodgers.
Analysis: Lee lined a double to right field in the seventh inning, marking his first two-bagger since July 2. The 26-year-old struggled in June but has been productive over 10 appearances in July. During that span, Lee has posted a .324/.368/.486 slash line with six RBI, three runs scored, two triples and two doubles across 41 plate appearances.
Luis Matos
Luis Matos Forces extras with homer
Sun, Jul 13, 2025, 6:39 PM
Matos went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run in Sunday's 5-2 extra-innings loss to the Dodgers.
Analysis: The Giants struggled to get any offense going until Matos delivered a game-tying homer in the ninth inning off Tanner Scott. The outfielder has gone 4-for-21 (.190) over seven games since returning to the big-league roster July 1 after a month-long stay with Triple-A Sacramento. Matos has struggled to a .172/.214/.387 slash line with five homers, 12 RBI, 11 runs scored and two stolen bases over 98 plate appearances. He will likely continue to serve in a short-side platoon role while in the majors, most often spelling Mike Yastrzemski in right field when the Giants face a southpaw.
Robbie Ray
Robbie Ray Quality start in pitching duel
Sun, Jul 13, 2025, 6:36 PM
Ray allowed two runs on three hits and two walks while striking out six over six innings in a no-decision versus the Dodgers on Sunday.
Analysis: Ray was close to taking a hard-luck loss, but Luis Matos' game-tying homer in the ninth inning spared him. Ray was strong, allowing an RBI double to Freddie Freeman and a solo home run to Miguel Rojas, but the southpaw wasn't quite as sharp as Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who pitched seven scoreless frames. Since the start of June, Ray has allowed just 19 runs (16 earned) over 48.2 innings, good for a 2.96 ERA. That's a little worse than his overall mark this year -- he's at a 2.65 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 128:44 K:BB through 119 innings over 20 starts. Ray was named an All-Star this year but won't pitch in Tuesday's game since he started Sunday.
Dominic Smith
Dominic Smith Taking seat against righty
Sun, Jul 13, 2025, 2:51 PM
Smith is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers.
Analysis: Though he'll head to the bench Sunday while the right-handed Yoshinobu Yamamoto takes the hill for the Dodgers, the left-handed-hitting Smith appears to be the Giants' preferred option at first base over Wilmer Flores, who re-enters the lineup for the series finale. Smith had started in each of the Giants' previous five matchups with righties, while Flores was held out of the lineup for all of those games. The two are likely to continue forming a loose platoon at the position until designated hitter Rafael Devers is deemed ready to make his debut as a first baseman.
Tyler Rogers
Tyler Rogers Tosses scoreless inning Saturday
Sun, Jul 13, 2025, 9:27 AM
Rogers threw a scoreless ninth inning in Saturday's 2-1 loss to the Dodgers, allowing one hit.
Analysis: Though he gave up one single Saturday, Rogers also induced three groundouts to end the frame efficiently, throwing eight of his 10 pitches for strikes. The right-hander hasn't allowed an earned run in six consecutive appearances and now owns a 1.55 ERA, 0.78 WHIP and a 34:4 K:BB across 46.1 innings in 48 outings.
Patrick Bailey
Patrick Bailey Scores in loss
Sun, Jul 13, 2025, 9:22 AM
Bailey went 1-for-3 with a run scored in Saturday's 2-1 loss to the Dodgers.
Analysis: Bailey singled on a line drive to right field in the eighth inning before coming around to score the Giants' only run. The 26-year-old catcher has recorded at least one hit in four of his last six games, slashing .316/.350/.526 with four runs scored, three RBI and a home run across 20 plate appearances during that span. Overall, he owns a .202/.267/.298 slash line with 26 RBI, 24 runs scored and two homers in 246 plate appearances this season.
Landen Roupp
Landen Roupp Pitches well but takes loss
Sat, Jul 12, 2025, 10:13 PM
Roupp (6-6) took the loss against the Dodgers on Saturday, allowing two runs (one earned) on seven hits and one walk while striking out eight batters over six innings.
Analysis: The first run against Roupp came on a pair of infield singles, a throwing error and a groundout in the second inning. The right-hander yielded another run on two singles sandwiched around a walk in the sixth, which proved to be his final frame. The Dodgers managed just one extra-base hit (a double) against Roupp, and he racked up an impressive 16 whiffs along with eight punchouts, but San Francisco gave him only one run of support, causing him to take a tough-luck loss. Still, this was another promising start by the 26-year-old hurler; he's now given up two or fewer runs in five straight outings, posting a 1.37 ERA with a 26:12 K:BB across 26.1 innings during that span.
Wilmer Flores
Wilmer Flores Sits again
Sat, Jul 12, 2025, 12:35 PM
Flores is not in Saturday's lineup against the Dodgers.
Analysis: Flores will sit out his second straight game overall and fifth with a right-handed starter or bulk reliever taking the mound. Dominic Smith appears to have taken over the large-side platoon role at first base for the time being, and he will hit eighth Saturday.
Randy Rodriguez
Randy Rodriguez Earns hold Friday
Sat, Jul 12, 2025, 9:42 AM
Rodriguez picked up a hold in Friday's 8-7 win over the Dodgers, allowing one earned run on three hits over 1.2 innings.
Analysis: Rodriguez entered the game with one out in the sixth inning, tasked with protecting an 8-6 lead. The All-Star gave up a double and a single in the seventh, surrendering his first run since June 12 before inducing the final out. The 25-year-old right-hander now owns a 0.89 ERA, 0.81 WHIP and 54:8 K:BB across 40.2 innings in 40 appearances this season.
Mike Yastrzemski
Mike Yastrzemski Doubles in win
Sat, Jul 12, 2025, 9:39 AM
Yastrzemski went 1-for-3 with a run scored, a double and a walk in Friday's 8-7 win over the Dodgers.
Analysis: Yastrzemski lined a double to right field in the third inning, marking his first two-bagger since June 17. The 34-year-old also drew a walk in the fifth before coming around to score. Over 33 plate appearances this month, the outfielder has recorded a .250/.344/.393 slash line with four runs scored, one home run, one stolen base and a 4:10 BB:K.
Jerar Encarnacion
Jerar Encarnacion Headed to Arizona for rehab
Sat, Jul 12, 2025, 9:38 AM
Encarnacion (oblique) will play in some rehab games in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League over the All-Star break before joining Triple-A Sacramento, per MLB.com.
Analysis: Encarnacion was placed on the 10-day injured list June 17 due to a left oblique strain, though he's now ramping up for a return to the big leagues. The 27-year-old has appeared in only eight games in 2025, having missed over two months to start the season after undergoing surgery to repair a fractured left hand in mid-March. In those eight games, he recorded a .136/.136/.182 slash line with a double, a run scored and a stolen base in 22 plate appearances.
Wilmer Flores
Wilmer Flores On bench Friday
Fri, Jul 11, 2025, 5:28 PM
Flores is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Dodgers, Justice delos Santos of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
Analysis: Flores will get the night off Friday, ceding first base duties to Dominic Smith. Flores has a hit in eight of his last nine starts, going 9-for-31 (.290) during that stretch.
Justin Verlander
Justin Verlander Falls to 0-7
Wed, Jul 9, 2025, 6:40 PM
Verlander (0-7) took the loss Wednesday against the Phillies, allowing four runs (two earned) on seven hits across six innings. He struck out seven.
Analysis: While Verlander was able to log a quality start, the right-hander will ultimately head into the All-Star break without a win through his first 15 outings. Overall, Verlander sports a 4.70 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 67:26 K:BB across 76.2 innings this season. He's currently lined up for a road matchup with the Blue Jays following the break.
Mike Yastrzemski
Mike Yastrzemski Resting up against lefty
Wed, Jul 9, 2025, 1:43 PM
Yastrzemski is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Phillies.
Analysis: With the Giants concluding their series with the Phillies with a day game after a night game and with southpaw Jesus Luzardo on the hill for Philadelphia, the left-handed-hitting Yastrzemski will get the afternoon off. Luis Matos will replace Yastrzemski in right field and will bat eighth.
Brett Wisely
Brett Wisely Sitting in fourth straight game
Wed, Jul 9, 2025, 1:41 PM
Wisely is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Phillies.
Analysis: Wisely made three starts in a four-game stretch last week, but he's now hit the bench for four straight contests. With both Matt Chapman and Casey Schmitt recently returning from the injured list, Wisely's window for receiving steady at-bats appears to have closed.
Patrick Bailey
Patrick Bailey Resting for series finale
Wed, Jul 9, 2025, 1:38 PM
Bailey is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Phillies.
Analysis: After going 2-for-4 with a walk-off, inside-the-park three-run home run in Tuesday's 4-3 win, Bailey will get a chance to catch his breath in the series finale. Andrew Knizner will get the nod behind the plate Wednesday.
Sergio Alcantara
Sergio Alcantara Clears waivers
Wed, Jul 9, 2025, 1:35 PM
The Giants outrighted Alcantara to Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday after he cleared waivers.
Analysis: Alcantara will tentatively remain in the organization after being designated for assignment over the weekend, though he'll have the ability to elect free agency if he prefers to pursue opportunities elsewhere. The Giants called Alcantara up from Triple-A last Thursday but he was up with the big club for just two days before losing his roster spot.
Hayden Birdsong
Hayden Birdsong Won't get start this week
Wed, Jul 9, 2025, 1:08 PM
Birdsong isn't scheduled to make a start during the Giants' three-game series with the Dodgers this weekend, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Analysis: The Giants will take advantage of an off day Thursday to realign their rotation, resulting in Birdsong's turn being skipped while Landen Roupp and Robbie Ray both make their second starts of the week Saturday and Sunday, respectively. According to Rubin, manager Bob Melvin said that Birdsong will be available out of the bullpen for the series against Los Angeles before slotting back into the rotation following the All-Star break. Since moving into the San Francisco rotation May 20, Birdsong has gone 3-3 with a 5.10 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and 43:23 K:BB in 42.1 innings over his nine starts.

Analysis: Bivens entered the game with two outs and a runner on third base in the sixth, retiring the first batter he faced to end the inning. However, the right-hander gave up a single and a home run in the seventh. Over his last 10 appearances, Bivens owns a 4.02 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 18:5 K:BB across 15.2 innings.
