Jung Hoo Lee Doubles in win
Thu, Jun 5, 2025, 10:22 PM
Lee went 1-for-2 with a double, a run scored and two walks in Thursday's 3-2 win over San Diego.
Analysis: The 26-year-old outfielder knocked a ground-rule double into right-center field during the first inning and later scored on another ground-rule double by Dominic Smith in the third after reaching base on a walk. Lee also tied the game-high mark in free passes after going without one in the club's past six outings. He now owns a .276/.326/.439 slash line with 34 runs scored, 32 RBI, 17 doubles, six homers, six stolen bases and a team-best 11.9 percent strikeout rate across 261 plate appearances this season.
Dominic Smith
Dominic Smith Shines in Thursday's win
Thu, Jun 5, 2025, 10:19 PM
Smith went 3-for-4 with a two-RBI double in Thursday's 3-2 win over San Diego.
Analysis: Smith delivered a bounce-back performance after going 0-for-4 in his season debut during Wednesday's win over the Padres. The 29-year-old first baseman singled in his first at-bat and later hit a two-run ground-rule double in the third inning to give the Giants a 3-2 lead. San Francisco signed Smith to a one-year contract Wednesday after he began the 2025 campaign at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, where he slashed .255/.333/.448 with 28 RBI, 26 runs scored, eight homers and four stolen bases across 189 plate appearances.

Chapman added another single in the fifth, marking his fourth multi-hit performance in his last eight games. He's batting .429 with four runs scored, three RBI, three doubles and two home runs across 33 plate appearances during that span.
Camilo Doval
Camilo Doval Rebounds for eighth save
Thu, Jun 5, 2025, 7:11 PM
Doval earned the save in Thursday's 3-2 win over the Padres, allowing two hits while striking out one in a scoreless ninth inning.
Analysis: After suffering a blown save in his last appearance Tuesday, Doval found himself in trouble again against the Padres, allowing a pair of singles that put the tying and go-ahead runs on base. However, Doval would rebound to strike out Jake Cronenworth for the final out, closing out a one-run Giants victory. Doval's allowed just two runs in his last 22.2 innings while reclaiming the ninth-inning job in San Francisco. His ERA sits at 1.61 on the year with a 0.96 WHIP and 25:13 K:BB across 28 innings while converting eight of 11 save opportunities.
Robbie Ray
Robbie Ray Earns eighth win
Thu, Jun 5, 2025, 6:48 PM
Ray (8-1) earned the win Thursday over the Padres, allowing two runs on four hits and a walk over seven innings. He struck out nine.
Analysis: Ray gave up a two-run homer to Manny Machado in the third inning, but he'd stop the damage there, blanking San Diego over his final four frames en route to his eighth win, tying Hunter Brown and Carlos Rodon for the MLB lead. Ray's been a revelation in San Francisco so far this year -- the southpaw has gone seven innings in three of his last four outings, lowering his ERA to 2.44 with a 1.07 WHIP and 87:31 K:BB across 13 starts (77.1 innings). Ray's currently slated to face the Rockies on the road in his next start.

Thu, Jun 5, 2025, 12:24 PM
Bailey is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game versus the Padres, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Analysis: Bailey started at catcher for each of the previous four contests, so he'll get some rest for Thursday's day game. Andrew Knizner will draw his first start behind the plate for the Giants since being called up from Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday.
Daniel Johnson
Daniel Johnson Another start in right field
Thu, Jun 5, 2025, 12:22 PM
Johnson will start in right field and bat leadoff in Thursday's game versus the Padres, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Analysis: Johnson will get a second start in a row in right field after going 2-for-4 with two runs and a stolen base out of the No. 7 spot in the lineup Wednesday. He's been elevated to the leadoff role Thursday, and while it seems unlikely that he'll stick at the top of the batting order, Johnson could continue to draw starts in right field at the expense of the slumping Mike Yastrzemski.
Mike Yastrzemski

Thu, Jun 5, 2025, 12:18 PM
Yastrzemski is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Padres, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Analysis: The struggling Yastrzemski will stay on the bench for the third game in a row, with the Giants facing right-handed starting pitchers in all three of those contests. Daniel Johnson will get a second straight start in right field Thursday after Jerar Encarnacion played the position Tuesday. Yastrzemski enters play Thursday in a 3-for-41 freefall at the plate.
Wilmer Flores
Wilmer Flores Exiting lineup Thursday
Thu, Jun 5, 2025, 12:14 PM
Flores is absent from the lineup for Thursday's contest versus the Padres, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Analysis: Flores had a three-home run game back on May 16, but he hasn't gone deep since then while producing a .552 OPS. He'll get a breather for Thursday's day game in order to regroup. The Giants will go with Heliot Ramos at designated hitter and Jerar Encarnacion in left field Thursday.

Thu, Jun 5, 2025, 9:36 AM
Hjelle (1-0) earned the win in Wednesday's 6-5 victory over San Diego, allowing one walk and striking out one in 2.2 scoreless innings.
Analysis: The 28-year-old was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday after Jordan Hicks (toe) was placed on the 15-day injured list. Hjelle threw 18 of his 28 pitches for strikes and retired seven straight batters after allowing a walk. The right-hander had posted a 2.97 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and a 32:10 K:BB across 30.1 innings in 18 appearances with Sacramento before being recalled.

Analysis: Bivens threw 13 of his 15 pitches for strikes but surrendered two singles, and the automatic runner came around to score in the 10th. The right-hander has been charged with three runs (two earned) over his last five appearances, during which he has posted a 2.08 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and three strikeouts over 8.2 innings. Overall, the 30-year-old owns a 3.10 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and an 18:8 K:BB across 29 innings in 18 appearances.

Wed, Jun 4, 2025, 12:35 PM
Encarnacion started in right field and went 0-for-3 in Tuesday's 3-2 extra-inning loss to the Padres.
Analysis: Encarnacion drew the starting nod for the first time since returning from surgery to repair a fractured left hand that he sustained in mid-March. The 27-year-old made an appearance in Monday's loss to San Diego as well, replacing Mike Yastrzemski in right field and going 0-for-3. Encarnacion could also see playing time at first base or designated hitter if Wilmer Flores shifts to first, as LaMonte Wade was designated for assignment Wednesday.

The Giants signed Smith to a one-year contract Wednesday, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Analysis: Smith opted out of his minor-league contract with the Yankees recently and has managed to land in a good situation in San Francisco. He could receive regular starts at first base against right-handed pitching for a Giants club that's been starved for production at the position. Smith slashed .317/.389/.622 with seven long balls and 22 RBI over 82 at-bats in 22 games in May while at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
